The water model demonstrates that in urban environments dominated by impermeable surfaces and concrete, polluted runoff quickly flows into streams without adequate filtration, which can lead to flooding. In contrast, restoring daylighted creeks alongside native plants and soils naturally filters water and reduces flood risks. Additionally, bio-swales are employed to filter pollutants, capture sediments, and purify water, while constructed ponds and dams serve to accumulate water and slow its flow, thereby creating valuable habitats.
